What it does

This Samsung package appears in Settings as Configuration update and is present on almost every Galaxy profile in device surveys. Samsung has not documented it, and community lists disagree about its role, so treat descriptions found online with care. It has no screen.

If you disable it

No feature is known to depend on it, but its role is undocumented. Disable it rather than uninstall it, and re-enable it if carrier or system settings misbehave.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.sdm.config

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.sdm.config

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.sdm.config

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.sdm.config

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
