An older Samsung data provider that stored usage context for Samsung apps, found on phones such as the Note8. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Context Service is a Samsung content provider from older Galaxy phones that gathered context about how and where the phone was used, for Samsung apps and Samsung's developer kit at the time. Device surveys find it on the Galaxy Note8 and not on current models. It has no screen and ran in the background.

If you disable it

Nothing you will notice; the Samsung features that used it have been retired.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.providers.context

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.providers.context

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.providers.context

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.providers.context

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
