Samsung's controlled file-sharing app that sets expiry dates and blocks forwarding or screenshots of shared files. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Private Share sends files to another Galaxy user with limits attached: the recipient can view them read-only, cannot re-share or screenshot them, and loses access when the expiry date passes or you revoke it. Samsung built it on its Knox security platform. On current phones the same idea lives in Quick Share's private sharing option; device surveys find this separate package on older models. It runs only when you send or open a protected file.

If you disable it

You can no longer send or open Private Share files on phones that use this package.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.privateshare

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.privateshare

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.privateshare

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.privateshare

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery
