The Xiaomi service that draws the home and lock screen wallpapers, including super wallpapers and lock screen coloring. Keep it: MiWallpaper is needed for the phone, its updates or its security.

What it does

MiWallpaper is the system wallpaper service on MIUI and HyperOS. Android draws wallpapers through a wallpaper service app, and this is Xiaomi's, rendering static, live and super wallpapers on the home and lock screens and supplying the colors the lock screen uses. It runs whenever a screen with a wallpaper is visible.

If you disable it

Community testers report a black wallpaper everywhere, no way to set a new one, lock screen colors and the fingerprint outline going wrong, and slower boots. On HyperOS 2 it may restore itself several times before it stays removed.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.miwallpaper

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.miui.miwallpaper

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.miwallpaper

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.miui.miwallpaper

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
