Xiaomi's face unlock component, which matches your face with the front camera to unlock the phone. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

Biometric provides face unlock on Xiaomi phones that use the front camera rather than dedicated face sensors. It enrolls your face, stores the face template on the phone and checks it when you wake the screen. It runs when the lock screen looks for a face.

If you disable it

Face unlock stops working. Fingerprint, PIN, pattern and password unlock keep working.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.face

adb shell pm enable com.miui.face

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.face
