Google's texting app for SMS, MMS and RCS chats, the default messaging app on Pixels and many other phones.
Google package
A Google system service that lets you confirm that encrypted chat apps are using the right keys for your contacts. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.
Android System Key Verifier serves end-to-end encrypted messaging apps. Apps that support it store their users' public encryption keys with it, and you can then compare keys with a contact by scanning a QR code or matching numbers to confirm you are talking to the right person. It does nothing until a supporting app asks it to verify a contact. Google records its releases in a public code transparency log.
Contact key verification stops in apps that support it. Messaging itself keeps working.
Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Android System Key Verifier > Disable.
Disable it (reversible)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.contactkeysTurn it back on
adb shell pm enable com.google.android.contactkeysThe stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.
Uninstall for the main user
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.contactkeysRestore after an uninstall
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.google.android.contactkeysNew to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
