Android (AOSP) package
The system tool that installs security certificates for Wi-Fi, VPN and work networks. Keep it: Certificate Installer is needed for the phone, its updates or its security.
Certificate Installer is the Android component that opens when you install a certificate file from the encryption and credentials settings or from an app. It adds CA certificates, user certificates and Wi-Fi certificates to the phone's credential storage so that work Wi-Fi, VPNs and some company apps can trust or present them. It runs only during an install.
You cannot install certificates, so work Wi-Fi, VPNs and apps that need a custom certificate cannot be set up, and community lists report Wi-Fi problems after removing it.
On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.
Disable it (reversible)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.certinstallerTurn it back on
adb shell pm enable com.android.certinstallerThe stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.
Uninstall for the main user
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.certinstallerRestore after an uninstall
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.android.certinstallerNew to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
