Google's on-device intelligence service behind Live Caption, Now Playing, smart text selection and app suggestions. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

Android System Intelligence is a Google system component that runs inside Private Compute Core, the walled-off part of Android meant for sensitive on-device processing. It powers features such as Live Caption, Screen Attention, Smart Autorotate, Now Playing, smart text selection, notification action buttons and the app suggestions row in the launcher. It works with the permissions it is granted, for example reading contacts to suggest people you call often, and it has no direct network access. It was previously called Device Personalization Services.

Also shown as Device Personalization Services, ASI.

If you disable it

Live Caption, Now Playing, Screen Attention, Smart Autorotate, smart copy and paste, text selection actions and launcher app predictions stop. Some keyboard and voice typing features that depend on it also stop.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Android System Intelligence > Disable.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.as

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.google.android.as

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.as

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.google.android.as

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Processes screen text, notifications, audio and contacts on the device to run its features; Google discloses that it gathers crash reports, diagnostic data and device IDs for analytics, which you can opt out of.

Now Playing and Screen Attention keep working in the background while they are on; switch off the features you do not use before disabling the whole package.
