A shortcut app that opens Google Assistant; the assistant itself runs inside the Google app. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.
What it does
The Assistant app is a lightweight launcher icon for Google Assistant. The assistant's voice recognition, answers and actions are handled by the Google app, and this package only gives Assistant its own icon and shortcut in the app drawer. On phones where Gemini has replaced Assistant, it may be missing or may open Gemini instead.

If you disable it
The Assistant icon disappears; voice activation and the assistant gesture still work through the Google app.
How to disable it
Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Assistant > Disable.
Disable it (reversible)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.apps.googleassistantTurn it back on
adb shell pm enable com.google.android.apps.googleassistantThe stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.
Uninstall for the main user
