Google Drive, the cloud storage app preinstalled on phones that ship Google apps. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Google Drive lets you browse, upload, share and open files stored in your Google Drive, and it can scan paper documents with the camera. It also appears as a storage location in the system file picker, so other apps can open or save files there. It keeps only the files you mark for offline use on the phone.

Also shown as Google Drive.

If you disable it

Drive disappears from the app list and from the file picker; your files stay in your account and remain available on the web.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Drive > Disable.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.apps.docs

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.google.android.apps.docs

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.docs

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.google.android.apps.docs

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Uploads and downloads the files you choose to and from your Google Drive.
