A backup helper that saves your wallpaper so it can be restored on a new or reset phone. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

This package is Android's backup agent for wallpapers. During a device backup it copies your home and lock screen wallpaper images and their crop and live wallpaper details, and during a restore it puts them back. It has no app label, so Settings shows the package name, and it runs only during backup and restore.

Also shown as Wallpaper Backup.

If you disable it

Your wallpaper is left out of backups, so a new or reset phone starts with the default wallpaper.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.wallpaperbackup

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.android.wallpaperbackup

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.wallpaperbackup

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.android.wallpaperbackup

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Copies your wallpaper images into the device backup when backup is on.
