AT&T's app for requesting a network unlock on some AT&T Prepaid phones; keep it until your phone is unlocked. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

AT&T Device Unlock lets you ask AT&T to unlock a prepaid phone from its network so it accepts other carriers' SIM cards. AT&T preloads it on some AT&T Prepaid devices, and AT&T's license for the app covers prepaid phones only. When AT&T approves the request, the unlock is applied to the phone. Newer Samsung phones show their lock status under Settings instead.

Also shown as AT&T Device Unlock.

If you disable it

On an AT&T Prepaid phone that is still locked, you lose the on-phone way to request and apply the unlock. Once the phone is unlocked, nothing you will notice.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.att.deviceunlock

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.att.deviceunlock

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.att.deviceunlock

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.att.deviceunlock

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Sends the phone's identifiers and line details to AT&T to check unlock eligibility.
