What it does

Scanner reads QR codes and barcodes and can capture documents with the camera, opened from its icon or a Control Center tile. Community lists note it requests broad permissions, including location, contacts and the ability to install apps. It runs only while open.

Also shown as Mi Scanner.

If you disable it

The Scanner app and its tile go away. Many camera apps and Google Lens read QR codes too.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > Manage apps > Scanner > Disable or Uninstall, where the button is offered.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.xiaomi.scanner

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.xiaomi.scanner

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.xiaomi.scanner

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.xiaomi.scanner
