Mi Browser

Mi Browser, Xiaomi's preinstalled web browser with a news feed, video downloads and Xiaomi Cloud bookmark sync. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Mi Browser is the web browser Xiaomi preinstalls on global phones, and on many of them it is the default for opening links. Alongside browsing it shows a news feed, offers video and image downloads and file tools, and can sync bookmarks and history through Xiaomi Cloud. It runs when you browse and refreshes its feed in the background.

If you disable it

Links open in your other browser instead. Set another browser as the default first so links do not ask every time.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.mi.globalbrowser

adb shell pm enable com.mi.globalbrowser

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.mi.globalbrowser

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.mi.globalbrowser

Data and battery

In 2020 researchers reported it sent browsing data to Xiaomi even in incognito mode; Xiaomi called it aggregated statistics and added an opt-out.
