A Verizon-signed background service on Verizon Galaxy phones, shown as D-MAT; Verizon has not documented what it does. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

This package is signed by Verizon and appears on Verizon versions of Samsung Galaxy phones, where Settings lists it as D-MAT. It has no icon, and Verizon has not published a description of it. Its name suggests a device management agent the carrier uses for setup or diagnostics, but we could not confirm that from any Verizon or Samsung source.

If you disable it

Unknown. Community lists treat it as removable and report nothing breaking, but no vendor source confirms that. If you disable it and then see problems with activation, updates or carrier features, turn it back on.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.verizon.obdm

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.verizon.obdm

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.verizon.obdm

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.verizon.obdm

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery
