A Verizon background component that handles sign-in for Verizon services on the phone; it has no screen of its own. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

Carrier Login Engine is a background package Verizon supplies to phone makers and has been seen on Motorola phones. Going by its name, it manages the sign-in that lets Verizon's apps and services recognize your line without asking for a password each time. Community lists suggest Wi-Fi Calling may depend on it, but that has not been confirmed.

If you disable it

On a Verizon line, Verizon apps may ask you to sign in again or fail to recognize the line, and Wi-Fi Calling may be affected. With another carrier's SIM, nothing you will notice.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.verizon.loginengine.unbranded

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.verizon.loginengine.unbranded

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.verizon.loginengine.unbranded

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.verizon.loginengine.unbranded

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Holds sign-in credentials for Verizon services on the device; Verizon has not documented it.
