Verizon's former texting app, Message+, which Verizon discontinued in December 2024 in favor of Google Messages. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Verizon Messages, also called Message+, was Verizon's own texting app for SMS, picture messages and chat, and it came preloaded on many Verizon Android phones. Verizon discontinued it in December 2024 and now recommends Google Messages on Android. Phones set up before then may still carry the app, but it no longer gets support.

Also shown as Verizon Messages, Verizon Message+.

If you disable it

If Message+ is still your default texting app, switch to Google Messages first. Verizon says your earlier texts stay on the phone and appear in the replacement app.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > Message+ > Disable or Uninstall; the exact wording follows the phone's maker.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.verizon.messaging.vzmsgs

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.verizon.messaging.vzmsgs

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.verizon.messaging.vzmsgs

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.verizon.messaging.vzmsgs

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

As a texting app it reads and stores your SMS and MMS messages and your contacts on the phone.
