Meet

Google Meet, the video calling app that replaced Google Duo and links into the Phone, Contacts and Messages apps. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Google Meet is Google's video calling and meeting app. This package was Google Duo until Google folded Duo into Meet in 2022, which is why it keeps the tachyon package name, and it still handles one-to-one video calls to phone numbers from the Phone, Contacts and Messages apps. It runs in the background to receive incoming calls.

Also shown as Google Meet, Google Duo, Duo.

If you disable it

Video call buttons in Phone, Contacts and Messages stop working and you cannot receive Meet calls on this phone.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Meet > Disable.

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.apps.tachyon

adb shell pm enable com.google.android.apps.tachyon

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.tachyon

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.google.android.apps.tachyon

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
