Samsung's smart home app that controls TVs, appliances, lights and Bluetooth gear from a Galaxy phone. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

SmartThings connects and controls Samsung TVs and appliances, many third-party smart home devices, and some Bluetooth accessories. It also powers the Devices panel in Quick settings, scenes and automations, and on many phones the older SmartThings Find service for locating lost Galaxy devices. Samsung publishes it on the Play Store and Galaxy Store. It runs in the background to keep device status and automations current.

If you disable it

You lose control of smart home devices and the Quick settings Devices panel, and SmartThings Find stops locating your Galaxy devices and SmartTags on phones that still use it.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > SmartThings > Disable.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.oneconnect

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.oneconnect

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.oneconnect

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.oneconnect

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Sends device status and commands through Samsung's SmartThings servers using your Samsung account.

Can scan for nearby devices in the background; turning off nearby device scanning reduces that.
