The Galaxy side of Link to Windows, which connects the phone to Microsoft's Phone Link app on a Windows PC. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Link to Windows Service is Samsung's built-in part of Link to Windows, the feature that shows your phone's notifications, messages, calls, photos and apps on a Windows PC through Microsoft's Phone Link app. It is turned on under Connected devices in Settings and works with Microsoft's Link to Windows app. It runs in the background only while the connection is set up.

If you disable it

Your PC can no longer show the phone's messages, photos, notifications or mirrored apps. If you never set up Link to Windows, nothing changes.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.mdx

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.mdx

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.mdx

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.mdx

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
