What it does

Voice wake-up is a small Samsung service that listens for the Bixby wake phrase. When the feature is turned on in Bixby settings, it runs in the background, matches what the microphone hears against the voice sample you registered, and starts Bixby when the phrase matches. When the feature is off, it does nothing. Samsung ships it on Galaxy phones alongside the Bixby app.

Also shown as "Bixby" voice wake-up.

If you disable it

Bixby no longer starts when you say the wake phrase. Bixby still opens from the side key or the app icon.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.bixby.wakeup

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.bixby.wakeup

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.bixby.wakeup

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.bixby.wakeup

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Listening for the phrase happens on the phone; audio after the phrase is passed to Bixby, which sends requests to Samsung's servers.

Uses a little power while the wake phrase setting is on. Turning Voice wake-up off in Bixby settings has the same effect as disabling the package.
