SettingsBixby

A link between Bixby and the Settings app that let voice commands change phone settings on older Galaxy models. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

SettingsBixby is a small Samsung package that exposes the Settings app to Bixby, so a spoken request such as turning on Wi-Fi or changing brightness can be carried out. It has no screen and only runs when Bixby sends it a request. Device surveys find it on Galaxy A-series and S-series phones up to about Android 14, and not on the newest flagships.

If you disable it

Bixby can no longer change system settings by voice. The Settings app itself works normally.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.settings.bixby

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.app.settings.bixby

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.settings.bixby

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.app.settings.bixby
