Samsung's screenshot tools: the toolbar after a capture, scroll capture, drawing on screenshots and Smart select. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Samsung capture adds tools on top of Android's screenshot. After you take a screenshot it can show a toolbar for scroll capture, drawing, cropping, tagging and sharing, and it provides Smart select for capturing part of the screen or making a GIF. Samsung's Galaxy Store lists it as Samsung capture. It runs right after a screenshot and when you open its tools.

Also shown as Smart capture, Smart select.

If you disable it

The toolbar after a screenshot, scroll capture and Smart select disappear. Taking a plain screenshot with the buttons still works.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.smartcapture

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.app.smartcapture

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.smartcapture

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.app.smartcapture

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Works on screenshots saved to your phone; nothing beyond its own settings is sent.
