Samsung's search tool behind the Apps screen search bar, finding apps, settings, contacts and files. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

Finder is the search bar at the top of the Galaxy Apps screen. It searches installed apps, settings, contacts, messages, files and some app content, and can pass a query to the web. Device surveys show it as a separate package on Galaxy phones up to about Android 14; on newer models the search bar is handled by other Samsung components. It runs when you search.

Also shown as S Finder.

If you disable it

Searching from the Apps screen stops working on phones where Finder is a separate package.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.galaxyfinder

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.app.galaxyfinder

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.galaxyfinder

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.app.galaxyfinder

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
