Samsung's Galaxy AI interpreter for face-to-face conversations, with a split screen showing each side's translation. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Interpreter translates a spoken conversation between two languages on the spot, showing each person a text translation on a split screen and reading it aloud. On Galaxy AI phones running One UI 6.1 or later it can work without a connection once the language packs are downloaded. You open it from Quick settings, and it runs only while in use.

If you disable it

The Interpreter tile and app stop working. Live Translate in calls is a separate feature.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.interpreter

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.app.interpreter

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.interpreter

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.app.interpreter

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Processes speech on the phone when language packs are downloaded; Samsung says some Galaxy AI features use its servers.
