Samsung's Dual Messenger, which installs a second copy of a messaging app so you can use two accounts. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

Dual Messenger lets you run a second copy of supported messaging apps, such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, with a different account and its own contact list. You turn it on per app under Advanced features in Settings, and the second copy carries a badge on its icon. It runs while second copies exist.

If you disable it

Second copies of messaging apps stop working. If you use a second account through Dual Messenger, back up those chats first, because removing the second copy deletes its data.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.da.daagent

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.da.daagent

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.da.daagent

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.da.daagent

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Keeps the second app and its data in a separate space on the phone.
