A hidden Netflix partner package on Galaxy phones that links the preinstalled Netflix app to the device deal. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

This small package ships with preinstalled Netflix on Galaxy phones. Its file name in the phone image refers to Netflix activation for partner devices, and community lists believe it registers the preinstall with Netflix or places the Netflix icon, but neither Samsung nor Netflix has documented it. The Netflix app works without it. It has no screen.

If you disable it

Nothing you will notice; the Netflix app works without it.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.netflix.partner.activation

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.netflix.partner.activation

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.netflix.partner.activation

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.netflix.partner.activation

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Not documented; it is believed to report the partner preinstall to Netflix.
