Meta's installer that downloads the full Facebook or Instagram app when a preinstalled placeholder is opened. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Meta App Installer, formerly Facebook App Installer, handles installing and updating Meta's apps on phones where Samsung includes placeholders for them. When you tap a preinstalled Facebook icon that is only a stub, this package fetches the full app. It runs only when an install or update is needed.

Also shown as Facebook App Installer.

If you disable it

Placeholder Meta app icons can no longer install the full app on their own; installing from the Play Store still works.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > Meta App Installer > Disable.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.facebook.system

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.facebook.system

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.facebook.system

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.facebook.system

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
