Motorola face unlock

Motorola's face unlock, which uses the front camera to unlock the phone when it recognizes your face. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

Motorola face unlock matches your face with the front camera when you wake the phone, as a quicker alternative to a PIN or fingerprint. Motorola's guide warns that it can be fooled by someone who looks like you or by holding the phone to your face, and that it stops working after four hours locked until you use another method. It runs when the lock screen looks for a face.

If you disable it

Face unlock stops working. Fingerprint, PIN, pattern and password unlock are not affected.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.motorola.faceunlock

adb shell pm enable com.motorola.faceunlock

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.motorola.faceunlock

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.motorola.faceunlock

Motorola says face matching data is stored securely on the phone.
