Mi Video, Xiaomi's video player for files on the phone, which also streams short videos and shows ads in some regions. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Mi Video is Xiaomi's preinstalled video player. It plays video files stored on the phone and, in many regions, adds a feed of online short videos, downloads and ads. Other Xiaomi apps, such as the file manager, may hand videos to it by default. It runs when you watch something and when its feed refreshes.

If you disable it

Videos open in another player instead. Video files on the phone are not touched.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > Manage apps > Mi Video > Disable or Uninstall, where the button is offered.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.videoplayer

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.miui.videoplayer

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.videoplayer

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.miui.videoplayer

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Reads video files on the phone; Xiaomi's privacy white paper lists the usage and advertising data its online features collect.
