Screen Recorder

Xiaomi's Screen Recorder, started from Control Center, which captures the screen with optional sound. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Screen Recorder records what is on the screen, with system sound or microphone audio, and saves the video for editing or sharing. Xiaomi documents starting it from the Screen Recorder tile in Control Center and adjusting its quality under Settings > Additional settings > Screen Recorder. It runs only while a recording is set up or in progress.

If you disable it

The Screen Recorder tile and app stop working. Recent Android versions offer their own screen recorder tile, and third-party recorders still work.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.screenrecorder

adb shell pm enable com.miui.screenrecorder

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.screenrecorder

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.miui.screenrecorder
