MiCloudSync

The Xiaomi sync engine that moves contacts, messages, notes, call history and settings between the phone and Xiaomi Cloud. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

MiCloudSync does the actual syncing for Xiaomi Cloud. When you sign in to a Mi Account and turn on sync for an item, it uploads and downloads contacts, messages, call history, notes, browser bookmarks, Wi-Fi settings and similar data. Xiaomi says synced data is encrypted in transit and at rest. It runs in the background only while sync is on.

If you disable it

Xiaomi Cloud sync stops for every item. Data already on the phone stays, and Google account sync is not affected.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.micloudsync

adb shell pm enable com.miui.micloudsync

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.micloudsync

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.miui.micloudsync

Data and battery

With sync on, it uploads the items you choose to Xiaomi Cloud, which Xiaomi says encrypts them with at least 128-bit AES.
