Microsoft's cloud storage app, preinstalled on Galaxy phones and linked to Gallery for photo backup. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

OneDrive is Microsoft's cloud storage service for files and photos. Samsung preinstalls it on Galaxy phones under a long-running partnership with Microsoft, and Samsung Gallery can sync albums to it. It is published on the Play Store, and on Galaxy phones it is often part of the system image, so Settings may offer Disable rather than Uninstall. It runs in the background when photo backup or file sync is on.

Also shown as Microsoft OneDrive.

If you disable it

OneDrive files and Gallery sync to OneDrive are no longer available on the phone. Your files stay in your Microsoft account online.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > OneDrive > Disable.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.microsoft.skydrive

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.microsoft.skydrive

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.microsoft.skydrive

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.microsoft.skydrive

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Uploads the files and photos you choose to sync to Microsoft's servers under your Microsoft account.

Photo backup can use battery and data in the background; turn off camera upload in OneDrive if you do not need it.
