A Verizon library that manages the data connection settings (APNs) for a Verizon line; leave it alone if you use Verizon. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

apnlib is a Verizon-signed system component with no screen of its own. It holds the code Verizon uses to set up and update access point names (APNs), the settings that tell the phone how to reach Verizon's data, picture messaging and calling services. It ships in the Pixel system image in every region and on some other Android phones, and it only matters when a Verizon SIM is in the phone.

If you disable it

Community reports say removing it on a Verizon line breaks calls, texts and Wi-Fi Calling, and one links it to unexpected restarts. With another carrier's SIM, nothing you will notice. If you are on Verizon, keep it.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.vzw.apnlib

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.vzw.apnlib

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.vzw.apnlib

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.vzw.apnlib

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Reads and writes the phone's APN settings for the Verizon SIM; Verizon has not documented anything else it handles.
