IMS Service
Samsung's IMS service, which carries voice calls, texts and video calls over 4G, 5G and Wi-Fi.
Samsung package
Samsung's ePDG client, which carries Wi-Fi Calling traffic securely from the phone into the carrier's network. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.
ePDG stands for evolved Packet Data Gateway, the carrier gateway that accepts calls and texts over untrusted networks such as home Wi-Fi. This package sets up the secure tunnel from the phone to that gateway so Wi-Fi Calling can work. It has no screen, is part of the system image, and runs whenever Wi-Fi Calling is on.
Also shown as ePDG.
Wi-Fi Calling stops working, so calls and texts fail where cellular coverage is weak and you rely on Wi-Fi. If you never use Wi-Fi Calling, nothing else changes.
On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.
Disable it (reversible)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.sec.epdgTurn it back on
adb shell pm enable com.sec.epdgThe stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.
Uninstall for the main user
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sec.epdgRestore after an uninstall
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.sec.epdgNew to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
