Samsung's transfer tool that copies contacts, messages, photos and apps from an old phone to a new Galaxy phone. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Smart Switch moves data to a Galaxy phone from an older Android phone or an iPhone, over Wi-Fi, a USB cable or external storage. During setup and afterward it can copy contacts, messages, call logs, photos, settings and app lists, and it works with the Smart Switch program on a computer for backups. Samsung preinstalls it and updates it through the Play Store and Galaxy Store. It only runs when you start a transfer or connect the phone to the computer program.

Also shown as Samsung Smart Switch Mobile.

If you disable it

You cannot transfer data to or from this phone with Smart Switch, including backups through the Smart Switch computer program, until you enable it again.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > Smart Switch > Disable.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.sec.android.easyMover

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.sec.android.easyMover

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sec.android.easyMover

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.sec.android.easyMover

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Reads the data you choose to transfer and sends it directly to the other phone or computer; Samsung says the old phone's content is not removed.
