Samsung's built-in video player that Gallery and My Files use to play clips stored on the phone. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

Video Player is Samsung's player for video files on the phone. On many Galaxy phones it has no icon of its own, and Gallery and My Files open videos in it, with controls for speed, subtitles and screen capture. Device surveys show it on every Galaxy profile from older A-series to the S25. It runs whenever you play a local video.

Also shown as Samsung Video Player.

If you disable it

Videos opened from Gallery or My Files may fail to play or ask for another player. Install a different video player first if you disable it.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.video

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.video

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.video

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.video

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Plays files stored on the phone; nothing beyond the app's own settings is sent.
