Samsung's media sharing service that lets Galaxy apps find and stream to TVs and players on the same network. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Nearby Service is the current name of Samsung's AllShare media-sharing component. It finds DLNA media players and TVs on your Wi-Fi network so Samsung apps can play photos, music and video on them or browse shared media. It has no icon and runs when a Samsung media app looks for devices. It is a different package from Smart View, which handles screen mirroring.

If you disable it

Samsung apps may no longer list DLNA TVs and media players for playback. Screen mirroring through Smart View and casting with Chromecast are separate.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.allshare.service.mediashare

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.allshare.service.mediashare

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.allshare.service.mediashare

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.allshare.service.mediashare

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
