A Samsung backup helper that saves and restores home-screen shortcuts during backups and phone transfers. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

ShortcutBNR, short for shortcut backup and restore, saves the shortcuts on your home screen so Samsung Cloud backups and Smart Switch transfers can put them back on a new or reset phone. It has no screen and runs only during a backup or restore. Samsung's application lists include it, and device surveys show it on current Galaxy phones.

If you disable it

Home-screen shortcuts may be missing after a restore from Samsung Cloud or Smart Switch. Everyday use is not affected.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.shortcutbackupservice

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.shortcutbackupservice

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.shortcutbackupservice

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.shortcutbackupservice

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
