An older Samsung option that uploaded large files to the cloud and shared them as a download link. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

Link Sharing let you send large photos and videos by uploading them to Samsung's servers for a limited time and sending the recipient a download link. It appeared in the share menu of older Galaxy phones; device surveys find it only on models such as the Note8, Note9 and S10. Quick Share's link option replaced it. It ran only while uploading.

If you disable it

The Link Sharing option disappears from the share menu on older phones.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.simplesharing

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.app.simplesharing

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.simplesharing

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.app.simplesharing

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Uploaded the files you shared to Samsung's servers for a limited time.

Where it appears

  • Android versions: 8 to 12.
  • Seen on: Galaxy S10, Galaxy Note9, Galaxy Note8.
