Samsung's location service that some Samsung apps use instead of Google's location services. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

This package provides location fixes to Samsung's own apps and features, for example for tagging photos with a place, weather for your area and place-based routines. Apps that use Google's location services or raw GPS do not go through it. It has no screen and runs whenever a Samsung app asks for your position.

Also shown as Samsung Location.

If you disable it

Samsung apps that depend on it, such as location tags in Camera or local weather, may lose location. Google Maps and most other apps keep working.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.location

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.location

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.location

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.location

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery
