App update is a hidden Samsung package that works with the Galaxy Store to update Samsung's preinstalled apps, and community lists describe it as the installer for those updates. It has no screen and runs when updates are available. Device surveys show it on current Galaxy phones.
Some preinstalled Samsung apps may stop updating automatically, including fixes for security problems in them.
On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.
Disable it (reversible)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.app.updatecenterTurn it back on
adb shell pm enable com.samsung.android.app.updatecenterThe stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.
