An OPPO upgrade service that works with Software update to deliver system and component updates. Keep it: System Upgrade Services is needed for the phone, its updates or its security.

What it does

System Upgrade Services is part of the update machinery on ColorOS and OxygenOS. Community lists describe it as letting the phone update itself and as running from boot, alongside the Software update app that OnePlus documents for system updates. It runs in the background.

If you disable it

Updates may fail to download or install, and community reports warn that removing it can cause a boot loop.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.oplus.sau

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.oplus.sau

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.oplus.sau

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.oplus.sau

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
