The system updater on OnePlus and OPPO phones, behind Settings > About device > Software update. Keep it: Software update is needed for the phone, its updates or its security.
What it does
Software update checks OnePlus or OPPO servers for new OxygenOS or ColorOS releases and security patches, downloads them and installs them on restart. OnePlus documents it under Settings > About device > Software update, and it also posts a notification when an update is ready. It checks in the background on a schedule.
If you disable it
The phone stops receiving system and security updates, and the Software update page no longer works.
How to disable it
On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.
Disable it (reversible)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.oplus.otaTurn it back on
adb shell pm enable com.oplus.otaThe stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.
Uninstall for the main user
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.oplus.otaRestore after an uninstall
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.oplus.otaNew to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
Data and battery
Sends your device model and current software version to the maker's update servers to find new releases.
