An older AT&T tool for copying contacts, photos and other data from your previous phone to a new AT&T phone. It is safe to disable: you lose nothing most people will miss.

What it does

AT&T Mobile Transfer was a setup helper on AT&T Android phones. It connected the old and new handsets and copied contacts, photos, videos and messages across. Android's own setup now offers the same kind of transfer, and Samsung phones also include Smart Switch.

Also shown as AT&T Mobile Transfer.

If you disable it

Nothing you will notice once the phone is set up. Use Android's copy-data step or Samsung Smart Switch for future moves.

How to disable it

Settings offers Disable for this package on most phones. Open Settings > Apps > Mobile Transfer > Disable or Uninstall; the exact wording follows the phone's maker.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.att.mobiletransfer

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.att.mobiletransfer

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.att.mobiletransfer

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.att.mobiletransfer

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Reads the content you choose to copy and sends it to the other phone during a transfer.
