Android (AOSP) package
The Android service that runs the NFC chip for tap to pay, transit cards and tap-to-pair accessories. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.
NFC Service is the Android system app that controls the phone's near field communication chip. It reads NFC tags, passes tap-to-pay and transit card taps to wallet apps, and handles tap-to-pair and other short-range exchanges. From Android 16 it can ship inside the optional, updatable NFC Services Mainline module, and it runs whenever NFC is on.
Tap to pay, NFC transit cards, tag reading and NFC pairing stop. Turning NFC off in Settings has the same effect without disabling anything.
On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.
Disable it (reversible)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.nfcTurn it back on
adb shell pm enable com.android.nfcThe stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.
Uninstall for the main user
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.nfcRestore after an uninstall
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.android.nfcNew to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.
