Google Wallet stores payment cards for contactless payments, along with transit passes, boarding passes, tickets, loyalty cards and, in some places, digital IDs. At the register it pays over the phone's NFC chip and hands the merchant a stand-in card number, so your real one is not exposed. It wakes briefly when you hold the phone to a payment terminal.

Tap to pay and the passes stored in Wallet stop working. Nothing else on the phone depends on it.
