Android's built-in fused location provider that blends GPS, Wi-Fi and cell signals into one position. Keep it: Fused Location is needed for the phone, its updates or its security.

What it does

Fused Location is the Android Open Source Project's provider that blends GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile network positions into a single location estimate for apps that ask Android's location service for the fused provider. On phones with Google apps, Google Play services supplies most location results, but this platform provider remains part of the location system. It runs whenever an app requests location through it.

If you disable it

Apps that request the platform's fused location may get no location or slower fixes; community lists rate removal as expert-only.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.location.fused

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.android.location.fused

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.location.fused

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.android.location.fused

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Works with location data on the device and passes positions to apps you have allowed.
