The Android app that shows carrier notices, such as an out-of-balance warning or a carrier sign-in page. You can disable it, with a caveat: read what stops working first.

What it does

Carrier Communications is Android's default handler for carrier events. When a carrier signals that a prepaid account is out of balance or that data is blocked until you sign in or pay, it shows the notification and opens the carrier's portal so you can top up. It runs only when such a signal arrives.

If you disable it

Out-of-balance and carrier portal notices stop appearing, which matters mainly on prepaid plans; regular service is unaffected.

How to disable it

On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.

Disable it (reversible)

adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.carrierdefaultapp

Turn it back on

adb shell pm enable com.android.carrierdefaultapp

The stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.

Uninstall for the main user

adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.carrierdefaultapp

Restore after an uninstall

adb shell cmd package install-existing com.android.carrierdefaultapp

New to ADB? Set it up in about ten minutes.

Data and battery

Opens your carrier's portal pages; anything you enter goes to the carrier.
