What it does
Motorola Software Update delivers Android version upgrades and monthly or quarterly security updates. It notifies you when an update is ready, and Motorola documents checking manually under Settings > System updates; for safety it may download security updates over mobile data if Wi-Fi is unavailable for a few days. It checks in the background on a schedule.

If you disable it
The phone stops getting Android and security updates, and the System updates page may no longer work.
How to disable it
On most phones Settings greys out Disable for this package, so ADB is the way to turn it off. The commands below work without root and can be undone.
Disable it (reversible)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.motorola.ccc.otaTurn it back on
adb shell pm enable com.motorola.ccc.otaThe stronger option removes it for your user only; the original copy stays on the phone and a factory reset brings it back. Prefer disabling: it is easier to undo.
Uninstall for the main user
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.motorola.ccc.otaRestore after an uninstall
